For international students in the U.S.

Your calm friend for figuring out life abroad.

Norra is the friend who's already been through it — someone you can just talk to about the confusing, intimidating, and sometimes embarrassing parts of landing in a new country. Visa status, banking, housing, taxes, and the quiet homesick moments in between. Patient, judgment-free, and awake at 3 a.m. when you are.

What Norra helps with

Everything you're suddenly expected to know.

The stuff nobody hands you a manual for. Just ask Norra — anytime, about anything.

Visa & status

F-1 basics, CPT and OPT timing, travel signatures, and what to do if something goes sideways with your status.

Money & banking

Open a U.S. bank account, build credit from zero, sort out an SSN or ITIN, and file taxes as a nonresident.

Housing

Spot rental scams before they cost you, understand a lease, and decode terms like "co-signer" and "guarantor."

Daily life

Phone plans, health insurance, finding groceries that taste like home, and generally settling in.

Study & work

On-campus jobs, emailing professors, and the unwritten rules of a U.S. classroom.

Feeling at home

Culture shock, homesickness, and slowly building a life somewhere new.

Students ask Norra things like…

  • What's the real difference between CPT and OPT?
  • Is this lease trying to rip me off?
  • How do I build credit when mine starts at zero?
  • Do I have to file taxes if I barely earned anything?
  • How do I ask my professor for an extension?
  • Why do I feel so homesick — is that normal?

Why we built Norra

It started as a few notes to keep friends from getting scammed.

Norra began as a handful of notes, passed between friends, with one goal: keep new students from falling for the same off-campus apartment scam — wire the deposit before you've even seen the place.

The more we wrote down, the more one thing stood out: every international student re-learns the exact same hard lessons from scratch. How to open a bank account. What CPT and OPT actually mean. Why your credit score starts at zero, and what to do about it. How to file taxes as a nonresident. And where to even ask — because the international office is overbooked and every official website reads like a legal document.

So the notes became someone you can simply talk to. We gave it a name and a voice on purpose — because when you're overwhelmed, the last thing you want is another website to search. You want a friend who's got you: patient, judgment-free, and always in your corner. That's Norra.

Every year, thousands of students arrive far from home and quietly struggle through the same avoidable problems — scams, missed deadlines, isolation, expensive mistakes — simply because no one told them how things work.

Norra exists to close that gap.

Guidance, not legal advice — and we're careful about the difference.

Norra helps you feel oriented and ask better questions. It is not a substitute for legal, immigration, or financial advice. For anything official, Norra points you back to your school's international student office or a qualified professional. That boundary isn't a disclaimer we tacked on — it's core to being something you can actually trust.

Early access

Norra is in private beta.

We're rolling out slowly to a small group of students to make sure Norra is genuinely helpful before we open it up more widely. Leave your email and we'll reach out when there's a spot.
